The Marin San Quentin 1 is a trail-focused hardtail mountain bike designed for riders who want aggressive geometry, durable construction and dependable control on technical terrain. Built around a Series 2 6061 aluminum frame, it blends modern trail-bike handling with the simplicity and efficiency of a hardtail platform.
The double-butted aluminum frame supports 27.5-inch or 29-inch wheels, depending on size, helping provide balanced handling and rider fit across the range. Internal cable routing keeps the frame clean and helps protect cables from dirt and trail debris, while the 73mm threaded bottom bracket offers practical serviceability and long-term reliability.
At the front, the San Quentin 1 uses an SR Suntour XCM34 fork with 130mm travel. With Boost 110x15mm spacing, coil-spring construction and a bolt-on thru-axle, the fork delivers improved front-end stiffness and confident control over rocks, roots, drops and rough trail sections. The 130mm travel gives the bike a more aggressive feel than a traditional cross-country hardtail, making it better suited for technical singletrack and demanding descents.
The wheelset uses Marin aluminum double-wall rims with a wide 29mm internal profile and tubeless-compatible construction. These are paired with Delium Versatile 2.5-inch tires, which provide a large contact patch for improved traction, stability and comfort on loose dirt, hardpack and mixed off-road terrain.
A MicroSHIFT 1x9 drivetrain keeps the setup simple, reliable and trail-ready. The MicroSHIFT RD-M9195M rear derailleur includes a clutch to help control chain movement on rough surfaces, while the MicroSHIFT SL-M6195-R shifter provides precise gear selection. The SunRace 11-46T cassette offers a wide range for steep climbs and faster sections.
The Marin forged alloy crankset features a 32T narrow-wide chainring, helping improve chain retention without the complexity of a front derailleur. A KMC X9 chain and sealed cartridge bottom bracket complete the drivetrain with dependable everyday performance.
Braking power is supplied by Tektro M275 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors at both ends. This setup provides strong stopping performance and controlled modulation, giving riders confidence on steep descents, technical sections and changing trail conditions.
The cockpit is designed for responsive and stable handling. A 780mm Marin Mini-Riser handlebar with 28mm rise, 5-degree upsweep and 9-degree backsweep provides excellent leverage and control. It is paired with a short 45mm Marin 3D forged alloy stem, helping create a direct and confident steering feel.
A Marin alloy 30.9mm seatpost, Marin Speed Concept saddle, Marin MTN grips and FSA semi-sealed headset complete the build, while Marin MTB platform pedals make the bike ready for immediate use.
With its 130mm suspension fork, wide 2.5-inch tires, MicroSHIFT 1x9 drivetrain, 180mm hydraulic disc brakes and aggressive hardtail geometry, the Marin San Quentin 1 is a capable choice for riders who want a simple, durable and confidence-inspiring mountain bike for technical trail riding, singletrack and everyday off-road adventures.
Ideal For: Technical trails, aggressive hardtail riding, singletrack, descents, trail skill development, recreational MTB and mixed-terrain riding.
